ABC Devotes Almost Six Times More Coverage to Jim Bunning's Non-scandal Than to Charlie Rangel's Actual Scandal

"World News investigated and followed the Republican for four minutes and 38 seconds over two days. In comparison, the program could only manage a scant 48 seconds of coverage for Rangel. (Anchor Diane Sawyer on Wednesday finally asked George Stephanopoulos about the news that Rangel was stepping down from his powerful Ways and Means committee.)"

Jim Bunning: None In, None Left On

"Did Republicans learn anything, and do they recognize what Senator Bunning may have done for them?"

Jim Bunning's Finest Hour

"If Republicans were nervous about getting behind Bunning out of fear that folks back home might revolt because unemployment checks weren't coming, or their constituents in the hinterlands weren't getting their local reruns of Seinfeld on their dish, then maybe they should go home and listen. It's only anecdotal, but callers were flooding the phone lines on Fred's radio show yesterday in support of Bunning. And it wasn't just Fred's show. Talk shows nationally and locally were hearing it from callers. There is a different mood out there right now. People want some sign from Washington that their voices are being heard and Bunning for a couple of days was speaking for them."

Stay Classy, Libs: Bunning Has Received Numerous Death Threats

"A couple of weeks ago when far-left quack Joe Stack flew a plane into the IRS building in Austin the left was quick to call him a "teabagger terrorist" and immediately assign blame to Republicans...."

Jim Bunning’s Not-So-Lonely Crusade

"Because of his ornery nature and ungovernable mouth, Bunning has come to be regarded as the crazy uncle in the Senate attic during his 11 years in Washington. And because he is retiring after this session, there isn’t much anyone can do to keep him in line."

Jim Bunning has a point

"Sen. Jim Bunning, who challenged Congress to heed its own rules and stop spending money it doesn't have, specifically $10 billion for unemployment benefits, COBRA health insurance subsidies, transportation construction projects and much else. Under its "Pay-Go" rules, Congress is not supposed to approve funding increases without an equal amount being cut elsewhere from the federal budget."

Congressional leaders fight against posting bills online

"The reluctance to implement a three-day rule is not unique to the Democrats."

"The Republican majority rushed through the controversial Patriot Act in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as well as a massive Medicare prescription drug bill in 2003 that added hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit."

"For the majority party, legislative timing plays a big role in whether a bill will pass because support can be fleeting."

Baucus claims it's too difficult to put health care bill online

"A proposal by Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., that would have required the Senate Finance Committee to post the final language of the $900 billion health care reform bill, as well as a Congressional Budget Office cost analysis, on the committee’s website for 72 hours prior to a vote was rejected 12-11."

Jim Bunning is not running for re-election

"To win a general election, a candidate has to be able to raise millions of dollars to get the message out to voters,” Bunning said. “Over the past year, some of the leaders of the Republican Party in the Senate have done everything in their power to dry up my fundraising. The simple fact is that I have not raised the funds necessary to run an effective campaign for the U.S. Senate."
