Power Play Update: What to Watch Friday – A-Do-Rahm-Rahm-Rahm
"Rahm will take his Rolodex and press maestro skills with him to Chicago, where things may tend to get a bit more complicated. There are clouds over the Daley political machine and murmurs of the need for reform. With Rod Blagojevich traipsing around, Tony Rezko still unheard from, and a fiscal catastrophe looming for the city, things could get dicey between now and the February primary."

Jim DeMint vows roadblock
"
"Any senator can place a hold to block legislation - and overcoming that would require the Senate to take time-consuming steps to invoke cloture, which would require 60 votes.
With the Senate slated to adjourn Thursday untiil after the elections, DeMint's stance could mean trouble for Democrats if the two parties don't quickly agree on a stopgap spending measure to keep the government operating past Sept. 30."

Democratic party leaders "breaking the fingers of those clutching the gunwales"
"Nancy Pelosi called for a party redistributionist scheme in which members in safe districts were to redirect their money to vulnerable incumbents. I couldn't figure out who she was talking about because with so many members of the Congressional Black Caucus under indictment or the object of ethics inquiries, who exactly was in a safe district? Still, there must be some. She indicated they had $218 million in their campaign accounts and could help out their colleagues. Of course, those figures might have been compiled by the CBO at the same time as it calculated the savings to be achieved by ObamaCare. In any event, the Democrats had better use what they have because it appears from all credible accounts that the PACs and employees of the nation's biggest businesses have finally awakened from their stupor and are diverting their campaign money spigot from the Democrats to the Republicans."

GOP candidates mostly avoid issue party pledged to hammer - Obamacare
"Republicans had promised to make the fall elections a reprise of the bitter, exhausting debate over what they call “Obamacare.’’ But two months before the vote, the GOP has adopted a more nuanced approach and folded the issue into broader attacks on the Democrats’ handling of the economy."

Barack Who? Bill Clinton Stumps for 'Independent' Democrat
"Bill Clinton strongly endorsed "independent" Staten Island Democrat Rep. Mike McMahon's re-election bid yesterday -- even saying it was OK for the incumbent to buck President Obama by voting against health-care reform."
"The one thing you got to say about this guy is he has been truly independent; he is not partisan," Clinton said while stumping for McMahon at Wagner College."
